Heading north from Highland Beach there is a small group of islands with wide sandbanks above the high tide mark that make good campsite for small groups of kayakers. The north end of Plover Key has high sandbank where you can fit about 2 tents.
At low tide it is possible to walk across the gap to North Plover Key, where there are more potential tent sites.
A little further north are the two turkey keys. Both are also good choices for groups of three or four people.
The north side of Mormon Key is a bit bigger than the other site and can accommodate several tents. There is also more room to walk around.
On clear days all these campsites will give you fantastic sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico, and a kaleidoscope of stars at night.
If you are in a very large group or have enough day light, you might want to continue to Pavillion Key which is about 7 miles to the north.
