If you plan on staying a night or two in Sanibel Island during your kayak trip, be prepared to spend quite a bit of money. All the hotels are expensive, and they all have the dreaded resort fee.
The Sanibel Island Beach Resort is a little cheaper (relatively.... it was $200 a night in the high winter season), and staff will let you keep the kayak out of the beach. You can use the garden hose to wash your boat. If you plan to kayak across the 40 plus miles of the gulf of Naples to Marco Island in one day, start before dawn and be weary of catching a strong northwest wind. You will get pushed along nicely, but it will also be choppy in the shallow waters.
There are plenty of places to eat in the back roads behind the beach hotels. Or at least there were until Hurricane Ian tore through the place in 2022. The causeway into the island was totally destroyed. I recommend Tutti's Pazzi Italian Restaurant if it survived the devastation. Do you have any updates for this location? Submit it Here
