Stiltsville is a group of wooden houses built on stilts located in the shallow waters of Biscayne Bay immediately south of the Cape Florida Lighthouse.
The community began in the 1930s and at one point had almost 30 structures. Today, however, only a few remain, and in 2021 a fire broke out in one of the houses. The source of the fire is mystery.
The shallows around Stiltsville is one of two popular spots with kite surfers in Key Biscayne. The other being the north end of Crandon Beach.
Kayaking to Stiltsville is about an hour round trip, depending on conditions. Trespassing is prohibited, but some people do it anyway (maybe that had something to do with the fire...)
