I don't usually use a VHF Marine Radio when I am out on the water because a satellite communicator with a digital map is enough. The VHF radio will however, be useful to get weather information if you do not have phone signal, or someone messaging you weather updates. It is also useful if you need to communicate with passing ships for one reason or other. This VHF was the cheapest one I found, and does everything you need. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it uses a cigarette lighter plug for charging so you will either need an adapter, or have a battery pack that will accept the plug.
